Rinse the red lentils in a colander several times under running water and let them drain well. Fry the onion and grated garlic in oil, add grated lemon peel, chilli pepper and drained lentils. Sauté together for about 5 minutes.
Pour boiling water over the mixture and cover with a lid. Cook on very low heat for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally. All the water should boil off, the lentils should be soft and thanks to regular stirring acquire the “spreadable” consistency even without blending.
Season the spread with salt and leave to cool to set. Then stir in the finely chopped tomatoes, basil, lemon peel and grated garlic to taste. Spread on KetoDiet protein bread. Garnish with a fresh tomato and basil.
