8 most common excuses that stop us from losing weight and being active. Do away with them right now!
How many times have you said to yourself that you will wait for one more month or till after Christmas before you get started with your diet? Or that you will go for a run as soon as you finish the chapter or something else that you just happen to be doing or once you get a pay rise at work? The truth is that you will never lose weight if you keep coming up with excuses. You need to find a way to put a stop to them once and for all. And what are the most common excuses that hold us back?
You can’t go to the gym, aerobics sessions or HEAT classes because one session would cost you a fortune. It’s just too much for you. I’m sorry, but the goal that you have set for yourself does require some sacrifice and you just need to be prepared to prioritize. If on your way to work you always get yourself a nice cup of cappuccino, then you will just have to stop doing it and invest your money in some exercise instead. Instead of eating out at lunchtime, bring your own lunch to work. And one more thing – you don’t actually need to go to the gym to be active. Just put those running shoes on, take a deep breath of country air and get going! It won’t cost you a penny.
I don’t have time
This is one of the most common excuses amongst many women. I have three kids, I can’t go out to do exercise. I have no time to make “my own” diet meal. You need to learn how to manage your time better and how to say “no” to some things in your life. There are endless ways to wave this excuse goodbye. Get up a bit earlier, go to bed a bit later or stop those regular get-togethers with your friends over a glass of wine. There are 24 hours in a day! No time to cook? Why not try some of our keto meals, such as protein smoothies, protein soups or protein mash that you can make in just a few minutes? It can’t be simpler. Chopping vegetables is a quick job too. Stop coming up with reasons why you can’t do something and start looking for ways to move forward.
The timing is not right
Are you ready for an honest answer? There is never a right time to start anything, not just losing weight. The only right answer is NOW. Do it whilst you are still breathing because there will always be something that will get in the way – unexpected expenses, work, children, break-ups. Of course you won’t be starting a new regime whilst suffering from flu or struggling with some serious illness. But that’s the only excuse! Even after breaking up with your partner you can still take up a physical activity. It will actually help lift your mood. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and go for it!
Fear and anxiety will never go away. Even the most successful people in the world are afraid of something. However, they have the courage to fight their fears. Fear is actually a good thing. It is a sign that you have set yourself an ambitious goal that is worth pursuing. If your goal doesn’t scare you, you might be tempted to give up on it as it won’t mean much to you. Just swap the word “fear” for “excitement” and look at losing weight as a challenge you are ready to take on!
I’m too old / young
If you are young, take it is a bonus – you have both time and health. You are not tied down by family or other duties, you don’t have a mortgage, partner or kids. What better time to start KetoDiet or take up regular exercise. Are you 50 or over? Your knee is just starting to develop arthritis and your back is sore. Sounds familiar? No reason to throw in the towel even at this stage! Slimming and exercise can be done at any age. Just make sure you pick the right type of exercise for your knees (back, ankle, etc.) and a suitable diet. It’s never too late to start.
It’s too hard, I won’t succeed
If slimming was easy, everyone around you would be skinny. Yes, it will be hard, but if you prepare well, you will succeed. It’s all in your mind. No one can win this fight for you. Do you want to lose weight? Good. You know what you want and you also know that everything in life requires some effort. No one will get anything for free. Unfortunately, this also means that sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do or we don’t enjoy. And if swapping your chips for a salad feels like hard work, then it’s a good sign – it means you won’t get bored. Challenging goals keep us stimulated and on our toes. Just a word of warning: It’s ok for our goals to be challenging, however, they should always be realistic.
What will others think?
Why should you be bothered with what others might think of you? Losing sleep over what your work colleagues or your neighbours will say? Give me one reason why your slimming and exercising should concern anyone else other than you. Of course, it’s great to have a supporting friend who will spur you on or a partner who will go jogging with you, but otherwise this type of excuse is absolutely pointless. Don’t let the negative outlook of others hold you back!
What if I fail?
We are all human and we all fail and make mistakes sometimes. But your odds of winning or losing are 50:50. And that’s a pretty good score, don’t you think? The ever-present possibility of failing is a risk you have to get used to. Very few things in life can be guaranteed a 100% success. Use this excuse as an opportunity. The excuse exists only in your mind. It is part of your slimming story which you keep telling yourself over and over again. Once you accept this story and let it go, you can start writing a new one and get closer to achieving your goals.
